Meet Reginald

Quality Lead

Reg heads up i4 Product Design's QMS team and is responsible for ensuring our team of consultants exceeds even the high standards for both regulated industries like medical devices and other general consumer electronics. He is also a member of the software team and writes code for various computing platforms and applications.

Reg specialises in mathematical modelling of physical systems, which allows for virtual testing before manufacturing a product. His Ph.D. research focused on one of his passions (music) and studied the simulation of brass instrument acoustics and has been used by several international musicians.

What are your three favourite designed products?

  • The printed textbook – contains a wealth of knowledge that can be easily accessed through the use of contents page and index. Wide margins allow you to make notes on side (or shopping lists if you’re a medieval librarian).
  • The viola – any stringed musical instrument requires careful consideration in its manufacture, but the underlying design naturally allows for a range of sounds to be produced. The viola has a great richness in tone that is unmatched by any other instrument.
  • Any of the Joseph Joseph kitchen products – I love that they have thought through all uses of the product and how you can make something extremely useful with what appears to be a simple design.

What interests you?

Music has been a large part of my life; I started on violin in primary school and then moved up to viola and guitar later in life. At the moment I lead the viola section in my local orchestra and also do a bit of conducting.

What product could you not live without?

Like everyone, my smart phone is an integral part of my life for communication, entertainment, and education. I really like the apps that give you access to your smart phone sensors, giving you a powerful laboratory that fits in your pocket.

I like to break things down to their simplest description, and then build up the complexity as it’s required.

There’s a great Einstein quote that sums this up:
“Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.”
